What Is Sandblasting?
Sandblasting (also called grit blasting) is an effective method used to remove rust, old paint, dirt, and other contaminants from metal surfaces. It is widely used in the restoration of structures such as silos, vehicles, machinery, and steel constructions before applying a new coating or paint system.

Restoring metal surfaces can be challenging. If old paint and corrosion are not properly removed before repainting, rust can develop underneath the new coating. This often leads to premature damage, resulting in wasted time and additional repair costs.

Traditional methods such as sanding or grinding can remove paint and rust, but they are very time-consuming and often cannot reach difficult areas.

Sandblasting offers a much more efficient solution. Using a powerful jet of compressed air mixed with abrasive material, the surface can be cleaned and prepared thoroughly. With this method, up to 95% of the surface can be effectively treated, including areas that are difficult to reach with conventional tools.

The result is a clean, properly prepared surface that is ready for coating or painting.

Preparing Parts for Sandblasting
Before parts are sandblasted, it is important to prepare them properly.

Whenever possible, components should be disassembled or stripped down. This makes it easier to direct the blasting jet into all areas of the surface.

It is also important to remove as much oil, grease, and sealing materials as possible before blasting. Surfaces that are sticky or contaminated can make the blasting process less effective.

Threads generally do not need special protection when fine abrasive materials are used. However, it is recommended to protect delicate threads or install temporary bolts in threaded holes to prevent abrasive particles from entering blind holes.

After Sandblasting
After sandblasting, metal surfaces should be protected as soon as possible to prevent rust formation.

Freshly blasted metal can start oxidizing quickly, especially in humid environments.
For this reason, it is recommended to apply a primer coating shortly after blasting.

Applying primer immediately helps protect the metal surface and significantly reduces the risk of corrosion before the final paint system is applied.
